How to Make a Spin Wheel Online: The Complete Wheel Maker Guide

A spin wheel is one of the simplest ways to make a random choice feel fair and fun. You type a list, press Spin, and everyone watches the answer land. This guide walks through building one from scratch with the free wheel on WheelySpin, from the first entry to sharing it with a class, a stream or a group chat.

Step 1: Start with a list

Open the spin the wheel page and type your entries in the box, one per line. Each line becomes one slice. You can paste a list straight from a spreadsheet, a document or a message, and the wheel updates as you type.

Not sure what to put on it? The templates page has ready-made lists for sports, party games, classrooms, food, names and more. Pick one, then change any line you like.

  • Keep entries short so they're easy to read on the wheel.
  • Use Shuffle to mix the order and Sort A–Z to tidy it.
  • Use Undo if you clear the list by accident.

Step 2: Group entries into sections

Leave a blank line between groups of entries and each group gets its own color. This is handy for a prize wheel with small, medium and big prizes, or a team wheel where players from the same group should stand out.

Step 3: Change the odds

By default every slice is the same size, so every entry has the same chance. If you want one entry to come up more or less often, use the + and − buttons next to it to give it a bigger or smaller chance. The other way is to repeat an entry: a line that appears twice is twice as likely to win.

For a giveaway or anything where fairness matters, leave every entry at the same size and tell people that's what you did.

Step 4: Make it look like yours

  • Colors: pick a style, set how many colors rotate around the wheel, or color individual slices.
  • Pictures: add an image to an entry so the slice shows it.
  • Logo: add a logo in the middle of the wheel for a shop, school or channel.

A few strong colors are easier to read than many. If two slices of the same color touch, use fewer colors in the rotation.

Step 5: Choose what happens after a spin

  • Remove the winner after each spin, so the same name can't win twice. Good for picking a running order or several prize winners.
  • Blind mode hides the names until the wheel stops, which adds suspense.
  • Verified spins save a replay with the date and time, which helps if someone asks how a prize winner was picked.

Step 6: Save, share and present

Save the wheel to reuse it later, or press Share to get a link that opens the same wheel for someone else. Press Full screen to show it on a projector, TV or tablet.

Streamers can add the wheel to OBS using the OBS wheel overlay, and site owners can put a wheel on their own pages with the embeddable wheel.

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. Too many entries. Past about 50 slices, text gets tiny. Split the list into sections or use the random name picker instead.
  2. Hidden repeats. A duplicate line changes the odds. Check the list before an important spin.
  3. Long labels. Shorten "Go to the cinema and see a new film" to "Cinema".
