Roll a full set of ability scores for a new character in one click. Each score rolls four six-sided dice and drops the lowest, the standard rolling method in the Player's Handbook. You get six scores, their modifiers and the total, ready to assign to Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.
How to use the D&D Stat Roller
- Choose 4d6 drop the lowest (standard) or 3d6 straight (old-school).
- Press Roll ability scores.
- Assign the six results to your abilities however you like.
- Copy the scores into your character sheet.
Rolling vs. the standard array
The standard array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) gives everyone the same total. Rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest averages about 12.2 per score, a little higher, but with more swing: you might get an 18 or a 6. Check which method your Dungeon Master allows.
Frequently asked questions
What is 4d6 drop lowest?
Roll four six-sided dice, ignore the lowest, and add the other three. Do it six times.
How are modifiers worked out?
Subtract 10 from the score, divide by 2 and round down. A 15 gives +2; an 8 gives −1.
Can I reroll a bad set?
That's up to your table. Some groups allow a reroll if the total modifier is 0 or less.
